Leaps of faith
The monkey god, Hanumān, is defined by two major leaps he takes in his life. The first one early in his life and the second one later in his age. Both leaps were necessary and just as important.
🐒☀️ The first leap was when he leapt for the sun, mistaking it as a ripe mango he wanted to take a bite out of. He was struck down by a lightning bolt and went tumbling down to his death. To appeal to this monkey God’s father, all the gods and goddesses promised not only to bring him back to life but to bestow onto him, all these super powers. The catch? He wouldn’t remember he has these powers until a situation called for it.
🐒🌊 The second leap, was to help his friend Prince Rāma save Princess Sītā. When initially asked, Hanumān was reluctant and doubtful of his own skill or abilities to do anything. But Rāma encouraged his friend and when Hanumān meditated on the situation, he knew that for love, he had to do something. And with that, the situation arose where his powers kicked in and he leapt across the ocean in one step. In this leap, Hanumān reveals his dharma.
And so, leaps of faith are necessary and vital in evolution and progression of Self. Often times though, we won’t know if the leap is foolish or if it will reveal a piece of your destiny.
Foolish leaps of faith seem like a great idea at the time, and it’s only till after that you get to assess and reflect if it was indeed foolish. And in those moments, it may feel like the wind is swept out of your sails, it feels like you’re in free fall with no bearings in Self or the world, and sometimes it feels like you have been brought to certain death. But in those moments between two versions of yourself, you are gaining insights, lessons, and experiences (super powers). And perhaps, you won’t even realize the extent of what you’ve gained till a future situation presents itself. And so, can this leap even be called foolish if you learned something about yourself? Of life? Of what you want? Of what you need? I don’t think so… :)
Other times, the timing, the situation, and the people are all aligned as you leap and in these special moments, pieces of destiny are revealed. Rare as they are, they do happen. We can use the heart as a compass to guide us and clear the noise from the world to hear our own intuition better to help us make these perfectly times leaps.
But, like I said, you’ll never know what will happen.
All you can do… is l e a p.
